Reels

Mark has brought a number of updates; some good, some bad, but most, unsolicited.

With every new update, I have seen people be happy or complain, but still get more addicted to his picture-sharing app- Instagram.

Then came Reels, a great idea that meant we could share longer videos, and newer updates to this feature meant we could share videos with music right on the app.

As with everything Mark does, there were even more unsolicited updates to Reels, and this time I watched people begin to complain loudly about how their feeds were being taken over by Reels. Like with every update, I remained silent but this time for a different reason.

How was I to say that I no longer went on Instagram to look at content from people I followed but now simply go there to watch Reels from random people I didn’t know and had never met?

How was I to say I spent long hours scrolling through Reel after Reel watching people get proposed to, strangers helping strangers, people answering questions from a guy with a mic and a camera, children being criminals (particularly love this one), street photographers taking pictures of random people, people cleaning and arranging their homes, filthy rugs being cleaned…the list could go on endlessly.

How was I supposed to say that Reels kept me company and cleared my mood after every crying bout?

I didn’t say. I just crawled into my bed every night and smiled at my screen watching Reel after Reel and enjoying every minute of lives that weren’t mine

Thank you for Reels, Mark.
