Writing Challenge: Words of a Royal

Day 5 is coming a whole day late, but we move!

The glint in your eyes, the twitch on your face, the shifting of your weight from one leg to balance on the other, the darting about of unfocused eyeballs, I see all these things. While having conversations with people, I notice all these tiny details which indicate interest or the lack of it. I might not remember what you said but I sure will remember how you looked while you saying it. Of course, I'll also remember if you paid me any compliments or ran down my matter (shout out to my words of affirmation FAM!)

I don't expect everybody to take note of all the many things I notice. But, I do sincerely wish people could pay more attention to the trash/litter on the streets. If you were expecting something deep, you have been played! The infamous couple, Gala and LaCasera (though Gala is now very promiscuous, rolling with Pepsi and co), who keep Lagosians company in the ever present traffic, end up maimed on the streets of Lagos. The nuisance they constitute can never be termed beautiful.

If you hit me up at the bus stop and we have a good conversation, please don't throw your trash on the ground. I wont give you my number after that, no matter how good our conversation was. Be civil, for crying out loud. Drainages are blocked and floodings come with the rain, but all we see is a non-fuctional government and not our contributory actions.

I wish people paid attention to the amount of litter piling up on our streets because we are just plain negligent. My momma would hit my 24-year old self if she sees me doing that (now you know where I learned it from). Growing up I thought properly trashing your litter was one of those unnecessary things my mum just liked to 'carry on her head' until I saw someone I admired 'carry it on his head'. He was the new VC of UNILAG while I was at ISL and he reminded me of my grandpa. This VC put waste baskets on almost every tree on the campus. The waste baskets also gave the botanical names of the trees. It was an interesting way to learn and keep the trash out.

I wish people could take their trash home ...and their trashy attitudes too!
